Is Your Ad Working?

You already know how to write a great ad for your home service business. (If you need a reminder, check out Building a Better Ad for Your Home Service Business). But do you know how to tell if it’s working?

Clicks, likes, comments and shares are great indicators that you’re connecting with your audience, but you can’t rely on them alone. You need numbers-based data to show you when you’re on track and indicate when it’s time to course correct.

When it comes to effective advertising, it’s a numbers game, and each social media platform comes with its own analytics dashboard to help you track your ad’s reach and relevance.

Here are 4 metrics you should be measuring to see if your ad strategy is really working:

  • EngagementThis tells you how your audience is responding to your ad. If you’re getting lots of clicks, likes, comments, and shares, you’re off to a great start!

If you see that your engagement rates are increasing, it’s a clear indication that you’re on the right track.

  • ReachYour reach (or impressions on some platforms) lets you know how many people are seeing your ad. Some platforms track total views, and others allow you to see the number of unique views your ad gets as well.
  • FollowersYour goal for your ad is to get a steady stream of new leads, right? Your follower numbers ca help you determine if it’s working. If your follower numbers are increasing, your ad is doing its job. If they’re staying static, your ad might need some tweaks.
  • ROIThis is the big one – return on investment. You spent time and money on this ad, and you want it to be worth the effort. Each platform tracks it differently, but most will help you track your cost per click, click through rate, referrals, and conversions. You’ll be able to clearly see how much you’re spending for each new lead, and if your ad is bringing good ROI.
