Building a Better Ad for Your Home Service Business

Chances are, you don’t have a marketing degree or tons of advertising experience, but that shouldn’t stop you from creating a killer ad for your home service business!

You don’t have to have lots of marketing expertise to write a great ad, and these tips will help you create compelling copy that gets customers’ attention and gives you a leg up on the competition!

  • Choose Your TargetBefore you can write a great ad, you have to decide who you’re writing to. New homeowners? Empty nesters who are ready for a remodel? Sellers who want to spruce things up before their home hits the market?

Your target audience will determine the tone and message of your ad, so you have to understand who your audience is and what they want. When you can think from the perspective of your potential customer, it becomes much easier to write an ad they can relate to.

  • Identify the ProblemWhat does your business do? Solve problems. Whether you’re a plumber, landscaper, or interior designer, you solve people’s problems and make their lives easier, and your ad should make that clear.

Your core message should show customers that you understand their issue and explain how you’ll fix it.

  • Get Their AttentionThe success of your ad depends on your headline. If you don’t have a strong, impactful headline, your ad won’t get the attention your business deserves.

You need a headline that’s short, concise, and filled with strong action words that inspire potential customers to click. Don’t settle for “Do you need a new roof?” Try something like, “Give Leaks the Boot! 👢” or “🛑 Stop Leaks NOW! 🛑”

Notice the emojis? They’re very effective at drawing the eye, but don’t go overboard. You don’t need an emoji after every sentence – a few well-placed pictures will do the trick.

  • Tap into Their EmotionsEmotional triggers are great for getting audiences to take action. Use words that inspire hope, trust, fear, or even anger to compel your audience to make the next move.

Fear of missing out (commonly known as FOMO) is a great tool for encouraging customers to act quickly. Ramp up the FOMO by offering limited time promos or discounts.

  • Give ProofObviously, you know you’re the best in the biz, but you’ve got to prove it! Include reviews, ratings, and customer testimonials whenever possible.

When you give customers social proof that other people love your work, they’ll be clamoring to call!

  • Call to ActionIf you want customers to take action, you have to tell them what to do – and that requires a clearly worded call to action (CTA).

You can include a button that tells them to call now, request a quote, visit your website, or claim a special offer.
