Your Mobile Optimization Checklist

You see it everywhere you go; people staring intently at their phones.

Mobile devices are everywhere, and according to Google, more than half of all internet traffic comes from mobile devices. This means that at least half of your potential customers will be searching for your business via phone or tablet- is your website ready??

Optimizing your website for mobile use is an important part of your marketing strategy. It’s one of the major factors that Google uses in its ranking algorithm, so your business won’t stand a chance at the number one spot unless your website is optimized for mobile devices.

You want to provide a great user experience for every person that visits your site, and that can’t happen if you’re not optimized. Here’s an easy checklist that can help you determine if your website is as accessible on the go as it would be on a traditional desktop interface:

  • Do you know where your website traffic is coming from? Use your website analytics to determine how much of your traffic is coming from mobile devices and what types of devices are used most often.
  • Use your tools! The Google Search Console has an easy-to-use feature that lets you know if your website is as mobile-friendly as it needs to be.
  • Check your speed. A website that’s slow to load or difficult to navigate will not pass the mobile-friendly test.
  • If you use pop-ups, you need to make sure they’re optimized for mobile devices. There’s nothing more annoying than pop ups that block your entire screen and disrupt your user experience.
  • Audit your content. Remember, your users are viewing your content on a tiny screen, so make paragraphs short and easy to read, and include bullet points and subheadings when possible.
  • Keep it Simple. Fancy fonts can be hard to read, and too many design aspects can make your site feel cluttered and chaotic on a mobile device. Keep your design clean and easy to see.
  • Check your keywords. Sorry, folks, but you need to develop a separate keyword strategy just for mobile users that identifies mobile-specific keywords and optimizes your content around them.
